Marriott Bonvoy · how-to
Reading a Marriott results page like someone who books on points
The search page tells you more than it seems to. Points per stay, the fifth-night note, and the difference between "sold out" and "no award rooms".

75,500
points per stay, and what that number actually means
When you search marriott.com with "Use Points / Awards" ticked, each hotel card shows one of three things. Knowing which is which saves a lot of clicking.
"N Points / Stay"
This is the total for your dates, and it already includes the fifth night free where it applies. A card showing 75,500 points for six nights means 75,500, not six times something. This is the number to compare against what you paid.
A cash rate and nothing else
If a card shows "274 MYR / Night" and no points figure, there are no standard award rooms on those dates. Click through and the rate page will say so plainly: "there are no redemption rates available for the dates you selected." The hotel is not sold out, it is simply not selling those nights for points right now. Check back; this changes.
"Sold Out"
No rooms at all, cash or points. Move on or change dates.
The banner at the top
"You're getting a fifth night free for every four you book" appears on the results page when your stay qualifies. If you don't see it on a five-plus-night search, your dates probably span two separate stays in Marriott's eyes, which happens when you book across a rate change.
One more thing
The property code in the page source, like KULKA for the AC Hotel Kuala Lumpur, is the stable identifier for a hotel. Names change, codes don't. If you track a hotel over time, track the code.
